Selling the Service and Doing the Service

 

I’ll never forget the first time I had to promote myself and my work.  It was back in 2013 and I was still working in corporate America at that time and I wanted to announce to the world that I had hosted a series of interviews that were similar to a podcast.

At that time, I was very used to promotions and publicizing every detail for my boss as his publicist, but now it was about me.  It felt natural to promote and share his work, but to share mine felt very different.

I wanted people to hear my interviews with celebrities but promoting myself felt like I was begging others to come “play with me”.

I noticed that the energy of promoting others was always fun and natural, but every time I had something to launch, I dreaded the consistent act of promoting myself and my work.

I just wanted to focus on helping my clients, but we all know that in order to serve your client, you must first sell yourself and your work.

But… it always feels yucky… am I right?
