Living an Abundant Lifestyle Secret #2

When you see the word career, don’t assume the word job. This is about a sense of fulfillment. Most of us want to feel like we make a difference in this world. Some take it as far as wanting to leave a legacy and we have many great examples of true leaders to choose from.

This choice of purpose could range from a stay at home mom that volunteers in her community to a top executive that is creating a great workspace and environment for many employees. The key to this being tip #2 is that you need to feel a sense of fulfillment. You must feel needed, wanted and that you matter to this world. Its even more fun when you work directly with people and you get to view positive feedback. When you’ve made a difference in someone’s life. That is priceless fulfillment. I will never forget my very first client’s reaction to my coaching. She started to make some serious life changes for her and her family. When she started losing weight, eating better and noticing a dramatic shift in her children’s health, I immediately felt full, a sense of making a difference in someone’s life.

If you are not feeling that you are living your true potential or giving back to the world what gifts you have, then let’s start to explore that path. Perhaps you can create a business or find a job that is more in tune with your God given natural talents.

This is a sneak peak into my 4-week coaching program, “Launch your hobby into a business.” I will go over briefly what that program looks like.

  • Self-awareness
    Hobby of choice
Will it make me money/who is my customer
    Business plan

[restrict]Self- Awareness: First step is to figure out who you are. What likes and dislikes you may have. I will give you an example. I became very educated on personal development and behavior in my mid 30’s. I came to realize after taking many personality tests that I had not chosen wisely for a career choice in my 20’s. There were many job positions that had certain aspects to them that I hated, literally loathed. I used to work for an outsourced Human Resource organization. I worked there for 4 years and loved my long client list of small business. I loved the client interaction, being able to solve their business HR and operational functions but when it came to processing their payroll and benefit claims I became very irritable. In fact during our crazy holiday time where we were processing many holiday bonus checks I noticed my mood was horrible. I couldn’t even stand myself! So when I took my first profile assessment I discovered that I hated details, to the point of zero tolerance with time consuming small tasks, such as payroll-accounting, and creating invoices. I loved relationship building and helping others but when my day consisted of too much detail work, which was my weakest point, I realized why I detested that work environment. Now if I owned the business, I would have outsourced the work I loathed and focused on the parts I enjoyed. When you find a job or career path that shines a light on your strengths, you have nowhere to go but up! So step one, take a personality test and learn about your skills and what you enjoy doing.

Hobby of Choice: This can be a huge indicator of what you like to do. What makes your heart sing? If you enjoy photography, you can turn that into a business or work for someone in that field. If you enjoy creating and designing from cards to bedrooms. Turn that into a business or find a career in marketing or design where you have the freedom to be creative and think outside the box. I chose those 2 interests because photography is very detailed, and usually requires more left brain, technical thinking. That type of person is a detailed person. Creating and designing homes is a more right brained person that likes to see big picture and skim the details. This is a fun exercise of self exploration in my coaching series.

Will it make me money/who is my customer:
This is a big one. This is where your hobby will remain a hobby forever unless you can find a way to make an income doing it. Will anyone actually pay you for what you do? If so, where are they? If your key target market is in a little African village you may want to rethink your idea. If it’s something that can be sold globally you have hit the jackpot! The farther your reach, the better the outcome. If there is a need, even better! The key is to believe in yourself and shine your brightest natural gift and the world will take notice.

Business Plan
This is the area that will launch your hobby to a business. You will need some major ingredients first. A dash of consistency and keeping your eye on the prize will get you to your goal. There will be times that the going will be long and exhausting, but overall never forget your why or reason for wanting to live your purpose.
You’ve heard the saying, “A true entrepreneur will do what most people won’t so that he/she can live like most people can’t.”

The ideal business plan starts with a long-term goal (typically 1-5 years), then broken up by quarters and weekly/daily activity needed. You will need some help in this area and I provide many tools to get you there. This goal will give you the certainty of each step that you take towards building your business. Too many business owners create chaos in their environment and need a good business coach to help them focus on what’s important. I would never, ever start a business without a mentor or coach. It’s a true remedy that has been proven to work for athletes and star performers. It will take you from amateur to pro!

You can take this same design from turning a hobby into a business when looking for a job/career. Or maybe you are looking at going back to school or finishing a degree. My coaching program is to get clear on living a purpose filled abundant lifestyle. The key is to do what you love and find a way to get paid for it!

That my friend concludes tip #2 of how to live an abundant lifestyle.[/restrict]
